Our Story Began with a Dream
Ken Ellison had a dream of owning a kettle corn food truck after retiring from the hotel renovation business in Honolulu, HI. It all started when he helped out in a kettle corn business while staying in Rapid City, South Dakota. He loved it! So when he moved to Virginia Beach to be with Family his dream turned to reality when he and his grandson, Jeffrey Fields, began collaborating.
Jeffrey is a traumatic brain injury survivor who has recently served as a as a council member at VOPA (Virginia Office for Protection and Advocacy), a Commonwealth agency dedicated to serving the handicapped. But he has also had a dream to be in the food industry, even at one time being a personal baker. So when his grandpa pitched idea of starting a kettle corn business, he was all in. In June 2016 the family launched Grandpa & Sons Kettle Corn, LLC. What put them above the competition was their choice to go an entirely different route with the kettle corn: they went ORGANIC.
Now the whole family is getting in on the fun and enjoying the happy responses from the Hampton Roads community. Jeffrey puts it this way, “It’s so great to make a product people love and can feel good about. It makes me feel great!”
